Aerobics First. Most Experienced. Most Trusted.
Aerobics First has deep roots in our local community. We have lived and operated from the same “hood” for 34 years. We continue to reach out to the running, fitness, skiing, and local business community we are a part of; seeking innovative ways to benefit both ourselves and our customers so that our small business can survive well into the future.
We are committed to providing quality product and knowledgable expertise in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Aerobics First is currently working with Start2Finish, a non-profit organization committed to help bridge the gap between the "haves" and the "have-nots" among Canadian children. The program addresses the need for enhanced literacy and physical activity among economically challenged children in the communities it services. Through this education we provide the building blocks necessary for elementary aged children to break the vicious cycle of generational poverty. There are now 3 schools in the HRM taking part in The Star2Finish Program: Joseph A. MacKay, Joseph Howe and Harbour View in Dartmouth all of which have been adopted by Gordon Stirrett Wealth Management. This year we put 126 pairs of Brooks Pathways Running Shoes on our local kids with the member support of The Halifax Running Club, The Navigators, Pax North Church and many, many other teachers and volunteers. Founded by Balega, A US-based sock company, the award recognizes the running store that has demonstrated a true sense of community by giving back, changing their community for the better and for the long term. Ubuntu is an African concept. It is a philosophy focusing on people’s allegiance and relationship to others. A person with Ubuntu is welcoming, hospitable, warm and generous. In short, they are willing to share. While it feels great to win such a prestigious honour, we recognize that we share this award with you, the customers, supporters and volunteers who come through our doors each and every day. You are always there with us when we need you: Helping to put kids in shoes, volunteering at races and events, running the clubs that keep us on the road together, reaching out to places as far away as The Gambia, and supporting us with your business. It’s the kind of running community we are proud to be a part of. You are the true spirit of Ubuntu. In the past the winning store was invited to visit South Africa each year with Balega executives but this year the company decided to invest $10,000 back into the community of the winning store. It fills us with pride to partner with a company that understands the true meaning of giving. It feels great to be recognized and we are honoured to be the first Canadian Running Store to win the Ubuntu Award. But the real reward comes from knowing that the community, both locally and globally, is stronger for our efforts. That’s something we can all share.
This program collects donations for a separate, charity account. 100% of the funds from this account are used to purchase new, clearance priced shoes. Our expert shoe fitting team then uses a network of health professionals and community experts to identify the homeless or near-homeless individuals with the worst foot health situations in Halifax. We then volunteer fit them with proper footwear to help improve their short- and long-term foot health. This greatly reduces the strain on the healthcare system and has a very positive impact on the day to day mobility and health of many less fortunate individuals in our local community.
