The trails provide opportunities for healthy and fun recreation only a few kilometres from downtown Halifax, and are also a tool for conservation of the river and wild areas of the watershed.

 

The Bluff Wilderness Trails

One of the most rugged and challenging trails in Halifax, suited for experienced trail users, the Bluff Wilderness Trails consist of 4 loop trails totalling over 30 kilometres. The trail generally moves over high ground, has many rewarding views along the way, and passes through several landscape types including forest and open granite barrens. The trailhead is located on the Beechville-Lakeside-Timberlea trail, along St Margarets Bay Road.

 

Pennant Point Loop

For those looking for an adventure slightly outside the Halifax core, the Pennant Point Loop offers seaside views and trails that dip in and out of the treeline of the Crystal Crescent Beach Provincial Park. This 10km loop mostly follows the granite coastline and provides a mix of singletrack and scrambling terrain! Trail runners who complete this loop can also look forward to a refreshing dip in the ocean, as this trail passes through 3 pristine white sand beaches.
