Sales Associate (Main Floor: Footwear, Apparel & Running Gear Department)

Job Type: Full Time, Long Term Commitment (1+ year), with weekend requirements.

Pay: $17 - $20 per hour, dependent on experience

Position Summary

Aerobics First is more than just a store - we are a community hub for runners, skiers, and active lifestyles. We specialize in delivering exceptional service to our customers and give expert advice based on their specific needs.

We are looking to fill a full-time sales associate position (shoe floor) with long-term commitment (1+ year) and ability to work Saturdays and/or Sundays, along with 3-4 weekdays (~40h/week).

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide and educate customers on product choices that match their specific needs and goals, using a high standard of fit assessment (training provided)
  • Deliver outstanding customer service and respond to customer requests by attentively listening, asking relevant questions, and sharing in-depth product knowledge
  • Efficiently and accurately complete a wide variety of daily tasks in a dynamic environment including, but not limited to, inventory checks, hold section maintenance, cleaning/tidying, back-stocking, marketing, and event preparations
  • Maintain and help improve store organization and merchandising, both on the sales floor and in back-stock areas
  • Participate in ongoing product knowledge training (outside of store hours), and daily staff meetings (before store opening)
  • Perform store opening and closing routine in collaboration with fellow employees
  • Perform sales on the cash register and accurately use the store POS system (Lightspeed) to ring through customers, place items on hold, check inventory, input customer information
  • Answer phone calls in a polite, friendly, professional way and respond to any questions thoroughly
  • Adjust strategies and approaches based on constructive manager feedback 
  • Identify and flag problems to managers by communicating in a professional and timely manner

Technical Competencies 

  • Previous retail or customer service experience is an asset

Workplace Conditions and Physical Demands

This is a full-time ~40 hours/week in-person position, with a requirement to work one or both weekend days, depending on store staffing. Mandatory product knowledge training is scheduled throughout the year (approximately once a month), lasting 1 to 3 hours (before or after store hours). Required to arrange transportation to/from Aerobics First and occasionally other locations in the Halifax Regional Municipality for off-site events.

Physical Environment: Located in a 3 story building without accessibility aids. 2 sales floors, 1 basement with tech shop/back-stock, 1 floor with back-stock/office/kitchen space.

Physical Effort: Physical demands are those associated with a normal indoor retail environment that include walking, bending over, climbing, and sitting. Ability to walk up and down stairs frequently and unaided, as well as carry 15kg over short distances unaided.

Mental Pressures: Must be able to manage heavier workload during holiday seasons.

Sensory Attention: Close attention required when completing tasks, often in a busy and sometimes noisy environment.
